White flags Ironic masses craving for more We crumble under words we ate and couldn’t taste We demonstrate under white flags, singing anthems we don’t know As silent as deaf, as silent as deaf, we cover ourselves up in cynism We drown in a constant flow Not knowing what to read We lose ground for a few words Irony hardly shades our lack of interest Readymade emptiness we only need to gulp

Inked mask How hard can you try remove a mask You’ve got tatooed on your face Wearing a self-imposed grin won’t hide The despise you feel, the hatred you keep Tonight, we’re playing fools Yet now, the trap’s on us We’re laughing at our hypocrisy Feigning it’s all dressed up Boasting our own mediocrity We gather hordes of followers Staging this lack of will We acknowledge our own failures Tonight, we’re playing fools Yet now, the trap’s on us

Bad Tooth Clenching its root deep inside my throat Gulping down my anger The acrid scent of resentment Keeps you tamed for years and years Feeding you / Drowning you An uncured cavity I can’t seem to fill So acute, so sharp, you won’t let me faint Abusing me, over and over A loose tooth in a decaying jaw Feeding you / Drowning you / in a sea of bitter I could keep you idle for years Take you out / Wrest you Pour the blood / you took away from me Liberate / Obliterate

The End of Us We, we have been captured And we’ve been silenced Trapped inside the invention Of our destructive attraction Ease the sickness, sickness, sickness, we can’t cure My love This is the end of us In our twilight days As we’ve come to the saddest commentary It was doomed from the start Doomed from the start My love Altough it is bitter This awful taste won’t last And the blast will remain I am leaving I am leaving I am leaving You my love This is the end of us

Cloak Beneath the cloak Wearing shades of depsair Prostate on the roads of numb Vain attempts to build up Fleeting palaces of self-esteem Bleak witness of self inflicted failures Excess of hatred bursting in storms of ire Shred this cloth, tear it to pieces Unveil your pale skin, spit this sewer of bile Face it naked, face it naked, spit your anger at me, and eat it back
6.
Collective Dictatorship Don’t realize when you’re pushing the limits Going too far Impose your will on top of others claim Give us a listen Hijack the speech and ruin the debate Won’t you admit it Talking for hours and ruin the debate Give us a break I call it collective dictatorship Shitloads of talking yet noone’s ever acting Cherished ideals that you don’t even follow Where does that lead you Never admit that you might even be wrong How can you not ?

Northern light Monsters of lave gazing their own reflection In black mirros, placid lakes A sky so heavy it leveled down Every crater, every volcano Mountain giants speaking a tongue of rocks Shore reaching the warmth of night Dripping over sky dancers dressed in white Rivers of sand, sea of melted rocks Can hardly water the pinkest of thistle Streets vomiting a band of peacocks Pissing rainbows on top of organ pipes Wading through river of cods they ran The phallic church comes in a geyser of white flakes

Lord Less There’s this great word Hysterical To describe a girl With a big mouth But there are more great words To describe you And I have plenty Well I have no king I have no leader Indeed I don’t need no saviour Serving no master But myself She doesn’t need your venom Pumping on her heartbeats Thumping on her eardrums Her ribcage Her thrills are enough to beat you down Make you lick her feet Wish you could have her Have her awkwardness There’s this great word Hysterical To describe a girl With a big mouth

about

The french duo comes back with a new
album, Modern Rituals, plunging deeper
into the blend of noise and sludge already
settled on their previous release, Ville Morgue.
This new record expresses all their
skepticism and unease towards a society
where sarcasm and mediocrity became criterias
of appreciation if not values to be defended
at all cost. A society that constantly
and repeatedly broadcasts its own decay,
drowning masses in a sea of ignorance and
ready-made reflections.
Modern Rituals marks on a new step
in Carne’s methodical research of more
darkness, loudness and sombre psychedelism.
The repeated collaboration with Marion
Leclercq* (Mütterlein, Overmars) brings
a new approach and tighten the ropes
around the malaise pictured here.
